What does it mean to be the director of your own life?

That was the question REACH and Catalyst members explored during a recent presentation with performer, public speaker, and disability rights advocate Bradley Westmaas. Through storytelling, conversation, and interactive activities, Bradley encouraged members to see themselves as the director of their own film, reminding everyone that their dreams are worth pursuing.

Using the world of theater as a guide, Bradley invited members to think about the roles they want to play in life. Where do they want to go? What do they want to accomplish? Who do they want to become? Members reflected on their goals, shared their aspirations with one another, and identified meaningful steps they can take to move closer to the future they envision.

One of the most powerful moments came as members spoke their dreams aloud. As each person shared, the room filled with encouragement, connection, and the reminder that every goal begins with believing it is possible.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of community. While each member is the star of their own story, no one reaches their goals alone. Family, friends, mentors, and supporters all play important roles in helping people navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and keep moving forward.

Members asked thoughtful questions about overcoming fear, finding support, and staying motivated when obstacles arise. Bradley’s message was simple but powerful: every journey starts with a single step, and everyone has the ability to shape the life they want to live.

At CEL, experiences like this help members build confidence, strengthen self-advocacy, and imagine what’s possible for their future so they can experience all of life’s possibilities.
